Lawmakers Urge Action Against Biden's Gun Export Policy

In a significant move, 88 members of Congress are calling for the immediate reversal of the Biden Administration's restrictions on firearm exports. Spearheaded by Senator Mike Lee and Representative Mark Green, a letter was sent to Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick on March 7, urging the rescindment of the interim final rule (IFR) that has been detrimental to American gun manufacturers.

The IFR, which limits the export of firearms and ammunition to over 36 countries, is estimated to cost the industry nearly $500 million annually. Lawmakers argue that this policy does not enhance U.S. interests or regional stability and is part of a broader anti-gun agenda.

Senator Lee emphasized the need for immediate action, stating, "Federal agencies have long sought to undermine our Second Amendment rights. This rule must be eliminated to support law-abiding manufacturers." Representative Green expressed confidence that with the new leadership at the Department of Commerce, the IFR will soon be a thing of the past.

The letter also referenced a recent executive order from former President Trump, which mandates a review of actions that infringe upon Second Amendment rights, further highlighting the urgency of addressing the IFR.
