Roots from 1948, reinvented in 2002 Black Wing was created in October 2002, when Rex and Suzanne Gore purchased the property west of Delaware, which had been operating as the JMS Shooting Center. The property had a long history of supporting the shooting sports under various names dating back to 1948. Rex and Suzanne’s vision was to create a world-class full-service shooting facility, covering all aspects of the shooting sports where they could help grow the sport of shooting. Black Wing is local and family owned by the Gores, which now includes their son Mark, who joined the business in 2016 and is helping carry the business forward into the second generation as President. In 2004, the new 20,000 square foot clubhouse opened, housing the indoor pistol and rifle ranges, retail sporting goods store, full service gunsmithing service, and a firearms training department. The 160-acre property initially provided 12 trap fields and four skeet fields for the shotgun sports. Black Wing Shooting Center was awarded the NSSF 5-Star designation shortly after opening, placing it among the few top-rated facilities in the United States. Today, Black Wing still maintains the 5-Star rating and is one of a few facilities in the United States that provides all of the shooting sports in one location. As the business grew and as Black Wing’s customers’ needs developed, Rex and Suzanne continued to expand by adding a large patio, archery ranges, a covered 5-stand, and a sporting clays course. A banquet room was also built to host large groups as Black Wing’s corporate outing business grew. In 2013, the main building was expanded by adding another 10,000 square feet to accommodate more indoor ranges. In 2019, construction of the third indoor range and lounge area was completed, including a state-of-the-art interactive shooting experience and a fully rentable 1,000 square foot lounge — perfect for hosting corporate groups or parties. The Gore family’s vision continues to focus on growing the shooting sports with numerous new shooter, female, and youth programs, social and fundraising events, and corporate/group outings. Black Wing’s goal is to “Exceed Our Customers’ Expectations” with superior service, providing the best entertainment and recreation available. Our priority is to maintain our reputation as the Premier 5-star range in the State. Quality products, knowledgeable staff, and professionalism set us apart as an industry leader. The staff aim to break stigmas and meet each customer where they are with an approachable, informative, and passionate attitude. We invite you to visit Black Wing — whether you are new to shooting, seeking to enhance your security, or just want to have fun. Let our team show you how to enjoy the shooting sports.
